This post is written to link with Five Minute Friday: write for five minutes on a one word prompt. The prompt today is “future.”
As I look to the future, there are so many uncertainties, which is not always easy for someone who likes to be in control, and when you also add an overactive imagination into the mix, it can be a difficult combination.
So many hopes and dreams. In some cases I can see where I’d like to be- I just have no idea how to get there. In others I can see the beginnings of something happening and I can develop my plans and ideas of how it will turn out, but the truth is I have no idea.
Alongside the dreams, there are the fears and “what ifs,” the worries about what could lie around the next bend and my ability to cope with it.
If I’m not careful, I can tie myself in knots dreaming and worrying and hoping and overthinking.
But then I stop to focus on the one who is in control, the one who knows the future, who sees the mountains and valleys that lie ahead, who will walk with me and give me strength, the one who is already there and who promises a wonderful eternal future.
And I hold to the truth Moses urged Joshua to cling to as he looked to the future: “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT)
Thank you for reminding us that God has already been there. Carved out a path.

What a conundrum. We look to the future and learn from the past but all the juicy parts are happening right now.

There’s definitely a place for learning from the past and looking to the future but it is important not to let ourselves be distracted from the present.

I don’t know how people make it that don’t trust themselves (present and future) to the Lord. It’s so good to know He holds us all in His hands.

I agree, Cathy. It makes such a difference in the uncertainty to know that we can rely on God and trust in his faithfulness.

Love your post, especially the reminder that God knows what’s ahead, even if we don’t. Leaving things in His hands and letting Him,direct our paths is the only wise way to live.

A great reminder to me this evening remembering He goes before us and behind us. Why do we worry?

It’s too easy to lose focus on God and think it all depends on us. If we could remember that God goes ahead of us and is with us I think we’d worry a lot less.

Absolutely love your five minutes on the future. Knowing He is the everything to the future, settles so many doubts. Being reminded of that is part of His plan.

So much THIS: “But then I stop to focus on the one who is in control, the one who knows the future, who sees the mountains and valleys that lie ahead, who will walk with me and give me strength, the one who is already there and who promises a wonderful eternal future.” Yes! I’m in the 96 spot this week.
