Holding On For The Happy Ending

Thank you for joining me this month as we’ve thought about the idea of Kintsugi– that there is beauty in brokenness as God binds up our wounds with gold, drawing us close to him and allowing our scars to witness to others of his love and power.

It’s not easy to live in a broken world and, while there is great beauty to be found, we all have times when we just long to be free- from pain, from suffering, from brokenness:

“For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay…  We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved.” (Romans 8:19-21, 23-24 NLT)

We are waiting, but we wait with hope, knowing that God is faithful to his promises and that one day our brokenness will be completely healed and we will be fully restored as God intends us to be.

“I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.””  (Revelation 21:3-5 NLT)

So let’s hold on to hope as we wait for the happy ending.  We are all works in progress, but one day we will be complete.  In the meantime, let’s give our broken pieces to God and see what beauty he can create.

To finish, I thought I’d share a few other Write 31 Days series that you might enjoy if you would like to read more on the theme of brokenness and restoration:

31 Days of Jagged Grace– Tara Ulrich
Tara is one of the first friends I made when I started blogging and, without knowing one another’s plans, we came up with very similar ideas for Write 31 Days this year.  I’m sure you’ll enjoy her thoughts on brokenness and beauty.

Redemption Stories– Debby Hudson
Debby shared a guest post here as part of this series, and her own series is well worth a read too.  It includes many inspiring testimonies from the work Debby and her husband are involved in with men in recovery.

Hope For Grieving Hearts– Tammy McDonald
Tammy’s series is made up of devotions and songs encouraging us to draw close to God and find hope in times of grief.

31 Days of Hope in Brokenness– Cattie Price
This series is full of encouragement that we don’t have to wait to be fully healed to be used by God, but that God uses broken people and there is hope in the midst of brokenness.

——————–

I hope you’ve enjoyed this series and been encouraged.  I have certainly been encouraged by writing it and by all the conversation we’ve had around this topic.

If you’re new to following my blog this month, I hope you’ll stick around.  I’m sure I will return to this topic soon.

My regular pattern of posting is to publish my main post of the week on a Monday and then a shorter post on a Friday to link with Five Minute Friday.  There may also be some extra posts, such as book reviews, from time to time.

Thank you all for being here, and I’ll see you on Friday!

  1. Congratulations, Lesley! 31 days of writing is quite a commitment. I was so encouraged by these Kintsugi posts. Thank you! I’ll have to look up those other links about brokenness and restoration. With you, I am waiting with hope “knowing that God is faithful to his promises and that one day our brokenness will be completely healed and we will be fully restored as God intends us to be.” Won’t that be a glorious day?! Love and hugs to you!

  2. Congratulations on finishing out the 31 days! That takes a tremendous amount of dedication and sacrifice. I’ve enjoyed your posts (and I learned something new–I’d never heard of Kintsugi before), and I love you you highlighted how God can repair our brokeness and make us even more beautiful than before.

  4. What a great topic, Lesley! We really are all broken in some way but as you said there can be such beauty in that. God can use it all! Congrats on finishing your 31 days. That is a huge commitment. Thanks for sharing the other series as well. I’ll have to check them out too :).
