When The Tiredness Hits You…

This post is written to link with Five Minute Friday: write for five minutes on a one-word prompt.  The prompt today is “tired.”

The prompt word is certainly appropriate for how I feel today.

It’s the kind of tired where you’ve kept going for so long because you had to, and so, when you’re finally able to stop, it overwhelms you.

It’s the kind of tired that takes you by surprise because you’ve finally been able to lay down the burden you’ve been carrying for weeks.  It seems confusing because you feel you should be jumping for joy, but all you want to do is curl up and sleep.

It’s the kind of tired that is more emotional than physical.  You wonder what’s wrong with you, why you feel so emotional for no good reason, and then you realise you’re just exhausted.  With some time and some rest, you’ll be fine.

I’ll share some more about the circumstances behind this at some point soon, but for today I just want to rest in these truths.  I hope they encourage you too!

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.”
(Psalm 4:8 NLT)

“The Lord gives his people strength.  The Lord blesses them with peace.”  (Psalm 29:11 NLT)

“Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  They will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint.”
(Isaiah 40:31 NLT)

  1. Exactly what I needed tonight before going to bed. When I read Psalm 4:8, I recognized that’s a verse I need to memorize. Thanks for sharing these Scriptures, Leslie, and hope we both are able to get victory in this area.

  2. Lord God, thank You for Lesley. Thank You for her love for You and her desire to share You with others. I don’t know what she has been facing, what hurdles she’s had to jump over, but You do. I pray today that You would grace her with a refreshing sense of Your presence. Give her eyes to see You move, even in some small way. Help her to rest and sort out her feelings, just as Elijah had to do in the wilderness. You are with her always. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  3. There is so much truth to this statement, “It’s the kind of tired where you’ve kept going for so long because you had to, and so, when you’re finally able to stop, it overwhelms you.”

I can relate to that statement. It’s not knowing what to do with yourself when you finally have that moment to catch your breath. I found myself in that place the other night.

Tired…hoping to have opportunities to catch my breath this week and to rest in the Truth of His promises.

    1. “Knowing what to do with yourself”- that sums up the problem well! Praying that you get rest this week and know God giving you new strength!
