This post is written to link with Five Minute Friday: write for five minutes on a one-word prompt. The prompt today is “done.”
Life can be hard work at times!
Even when things are going well, the pressure can be relentless- countless tasks and deadlines, so many people to consider and needs to meet, a “to do” list that never seems to get done, no matter how hard you try!
Then there are the burdens we carry- guilt over what we have done, or not done, pain from things that have been done to us.
If we’re not careful it can become an endless cycle of guilt and shame and worrying and striving. It is exhausting!
But there is a greater truth beyond the madness- a truth that is more than big enough to deal with all that has been done.
The truth of what Jesus has done:
- He loved us and chose us.
- He decided to adopt us into his own family.
- He poured out his grace on us.
- He purchased our freedom.
- He forgave our sins.
- He made us holy and without fault in his eyes.
And that’s just from a few verses (Ephesians 1:4-7)!
I know we know that. Most of us have heard these truths many times before and we would agree with them.
But what if we truly lived them today? If we made the choice not to live out of guilt or shame over what we, or others, have done, but to live in the truth of what Christ has done, and to let that be what defines us?
