This post is written to link with Five Minute Friday: write for five minutes on a one-word prompt. The prompt today is “burden.”
Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NLT)
Why are we sometimes so reluctant to take him up on his offer?
He’s there, right by our side, offering to take the load, and yet it’s all too easy to struggle on, trying to manage by ourselves, trying to carry it all, trying to fix everyone and everything.
The truth is we were not made to carry it all by ourselves. We were not made to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. We exhaust ourselves trying to carry loads that were never ours to bear.
His yoke is easy, and the burden he gives us is light.
What if we could lay down our load and rest in him?
On an unrelated note, if you missed my post on Monday I shared the news that I was delighted to have a piece of writing included in a Christmas anthology which is available now! Click here to read more and to enter a giveaway to win a copy of the book!
