Into The Deep

This post is written to link with Five Minute Friday: write for five minutes on a one-word prompt.  The prompt today is “deep.”

Creature in the sea

It’s easy to stand at the edge.
Looking on from the safety of the sidelines,
Observing,
Spectating,
Longing to be part of the action,
But at the same time, drawn to the comfort and security
Of solid ground beneath us
And something firm to hold onto.

It’s harder to take a few steps,
To test the boundaries of our comfort zone and venture out,
Timidly,
Hesitantly,
But drawn by the beauty of the deep.
Too often fear overwhelms us, and we stop,
Stay in the shallow water,
Where the edge is not too far away,
And our feet can still find solid ground.

Do you hear the call deep within
To leave it all behind:
Abandon,
Surrender,
Take the plunge into deeper water,
Letting go and stepping out,
Trusting him to be our security,
Our solid ground?

A daunting call,
But the best place to be.
Will we rise to the challenge?

  1. Wow! Such a convicting post and I absolutely love that song! I love “It’s harder to take a few steps, to test the boundaries of our comfort zone and venture out”. That is so true in my life and in the lives of so many others. Thank you for causing me to question the safety of my comfort zone and to listen to that call from deep within to stretch my boundaries.

  2. Yes! On Christ the Solid Rock I stand and sometimes he beckons us out to the deep to show us that even there He is our firm foundation.

  3. This is beautiful, Lesley. Fear often keeps me from going deeper. 😦

Yet He draws me deeper despite myself.
