This post is written to link with Five Minute Friday: write for five minutes on a one-word prompt. The prompt today is “loud.”
So much noise and so many voices,
Whirling and swirling all around us,
Opinions and hearsay, “facts” that contradict one another,
Disagreements and tension that dominate our time and attention,
Distracting us and unsettling us,
Instilling doubt and fear, and threatening to pull us under.
It’s all so loud!
But, wait – can you hear it?
Beneath the turmoil of the wind and the waves,
That still, small voice?
Often drowned out, but always constant,
Stability and hope even in the midst of the storm.
Stop, and breathe,
Listen to its whisper:
“Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” (Isaiah 41:10 NLT)
“Come to me all you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NLT)
“The peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.” (John 14:27 NLT)
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10 NLT)
It may not be loud, but it’s there – always.
