This post is written to link with Five Minute Friday: write for five minutes on a one-word prompt. The prompt today is “hide.”
“No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.” (Luke 8:16 NLT)
It can be tempting to hide – to hide our thoughts and opinions, to hide our feelings behind a smile, to hide our true selves.
We worry that people will think us strange, or that we’ll be judged. We feel different, and that no-one will understand. We fear that we’re not good enough.
But, if we follow Jesus, we have his light, and he calls us to shine.
He doesn’t fill us with this light so that we can hide it, but so that we can share it with others. And each of us is unique. Each of us is called to do that in a different way. We may be different from others, but that is how we were created to be, and if we hide, others miss out.
I know how hard it can be when you’ve been hurt – when you’ve spoken up or stood out or shared yourself and known rejection. Coming out of hiding is not easy, and it may take time, but what if you let others see even a glimpse of the light you carry today?
Love this! I too thought of this verse with the word “hide” =) Happy Friday!

Yes, it is good to let our light shine. May we reflect Him today in all we do and say.

I’ll let them see the Christ-light
that with joy I bear,
but not the scars from cancer’s fight,
for I am just not there.
It isn’t shame or shyness
that makes me say I’m fine,
nor is it a mindless
drawing of a line,
but rather I am not prepared
to admit that which I feel,
like the fact that I am scared,
and the night-dreads are too real.
I walk atop narrow wall,
and if heart falters, I will fall.

I agree, not hiding doesn’t necessarily mean sharing everything. Sometimes there is wisdom in staying quiet. I love how you let Jesus’ light shine through in the midst of your pain.

I definitely need to hear this, Lesley: “and if we hide, others miss out.” My first inclination is to hide when I feel vulnerable, but sometimes coming out of hiding when I’m vulnerable is the safest thing I can do.

It’s my first instinct too, and I need to remind myself to fight against it!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my wackiness uhhhh….uniqueness and it is starting to sink in that God made me this way for a reason and He can use me if I’ll let Him! Thank you Lesley, for the reminder we’re not meant to hide!

Yes, we can sometimes see our uniqueness as a negative thing when actually it’s how God created us to be!

What a blessing uniqueness is Lesley! To hide it is a very sad thing.
We each have been created to be unique but the world would have us being ‘one of many’ rather then ‘one of a kind’!
May we each Shine brightly for Him in all our uniqueness & individuality! 😉
Bless you,
Jennifer

Yes, it is sad when we feel we have to hide. And God can use each of us in unique ways if we’re willing to let him. Blessings to you too!
